A. Pengertian Procedure Text
Procedure text adalah jenis teks yang menjelaskan cara melakukan atau membuat sesuatu melalui serangkaian langkah yang sistematis.
Dalam bidang TKJ, procedure text banyak digunakan untuk menjelaskan:
Cara memasang kabel jaringan.
Cara menghubungkan komputer ke jaringan Wi-Fi.
Cara mengatur IP address.
Cara melakukan konfigurasi router.
Cara menginstal sistem operasi.
Cara membuat koneksi LAN.
Cara melakukan troubleshooting jaringan.
Contoh sederhana:
How to Connect a Computer to a Wi-Fi Network
Teks tersebut menjelaskan langkah-langkah yang harus dilakukan agar komputer dapat terhubung ke jaringan Wi-Fi.
B. Tujuan Procedure Text
Tujuan utama procedure text adalah memberikan petunjuk atau instruksi kepada pembaca agar dapat melakukan suatu kegiatan dengan benar.
Dalam konteks TKJ, procedure text bertujuan agar pembaca dapat mengikuti instruksi teknis secara urut dan aman.
Contoh:
The purpose of this procedure is to explain how to configure an IP address on a computer.
Artinya:
Tujuan prosedur ini adalah menjelaskan cara mengatur alamat IP pada komputer.
C. Struktur Procedure Text
Procedure text umumnya memiliki tiga bagian utama:
1. Goal / Aim
Bagian ini menjelaskan apa yang akan dilakukan atau dibuat.
Contoh:
How to Configure an IP Address
How to Install a LAN Cable
How to Connect a Computer to a Router
2. Materials / Tools
Bagian ini berisi alat dan bahan yang diperlukan.
Contoh:
A computer
A network cable
A router
An RJ45 connector
A cable tester
Tidak semua procedure text membutuhkan materials/tools. Jika prosedurnya hanya berupa pengaturan software, bagian ini dapat berisi software atau perangkat yang dibutuhkan.
3. Steps / Methods
Bagian ini berisi langkah-langkah yang harus dilakukan secara berurutan.
Contoh:
Turn on the computer.
Open Network Settings.
Select Ethernet.
Choose IPv4 settings.
Enter the IP address.
Click Save.
D. Ciri-Ciri Procedure Text
Procedure text mempunyai beberapa ciri khas:
Menggunakan imperative sentence atau kalimat perintah.
Menggunakan action verbs atau kata kerja tindakan.
Menggunakan simple present tense.
Menggunakan kata penghubung untuk menunjukkan urutan.
Langkah-langkah disusun secara sistematis.
Menggunakan bahasa yang jelas dan mudah dipahami.
Sering menggunakan istilah teknis sesuai bidang tertentu.
E. Language Features
1. Imperative Sentence
Imperative sentence adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk memberikan perintah atau instruksi.
Contoh:
Turn on the computer.
Open the browser.
Connect the cable.
Enter the IP address.
Click the Save button.
Restart the router.
Perhatikan bahwa kalimat perintah biasanya tidak menggunakan subjek "you".

2. Action Verbs
Action verbs adalah kata kerja yang menunjukkan suatu tindakan.
Contoh dalam TKJ:

3. Simple Present Tense
Procedure text umumnya menggunakan simple present tense.
Rumus umum:
Subject + Verb 1 + Object
Contoh:
The router connects the computers to the network.
Namun, dalam langkah-langkah procedure text, bentuk imperative lebih sering digunakan:
Connect the router to the computer.
4. Sequencing Words
Sequencing words digunakan untuk menunjukkan urutan langkah.
Contoh:
First = pertama
Second = kedua
Next = selanjutnya
Then = kemudian
After that = setelah itu
Finally = akhirnya
Contoh:
First, turn on the computer.
Next, open Network Settings.
Then, select Ethernet.
Finally, save the configuration.
5. Adverbs
Adverbs digunakan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana suatu tindakan dilakukan.
Contoh:
carefully = dengan hati-hati
correctly = dengan benar
slowly = secara perlahan
properly = dengan tepat
